Once Forgotten 1.95

Flamian landed in the courtyard, and almost fell over as Dylan threw her arms about him. "Where have you been??"

Flamian hugged her back and stepped back. "Wandering as usual, although, there has been a reason to my wandering this time."

Dylan frowned. "Has this anything to do with what Kadrin said?" He nodded. She sighed. "I thought as much. And you could visit more often!"

Flamian chuckled. "I'm afraid not, this time. I've been busy, and what I've discovered isn't good."

Dylan's eyes widened. "You can't mean...he really is back?"

Flamian nodded. "Afraid so. Not only that, but he is stronger than Kadrin said he was."

They walked through the halls together, making their way to the dining hall. She glanced at her childhood friend. "So, you believe Kadrin then? That we're Overseer's?"

Flamian nodded. "How else could we have such perfect control over fire and water?"

Dylan nodded. "Yes, that would explain our powers. All right fine, we'll meet with him again. And what about this apprentice of his?"

"It appears that she is none other than Kurel's sister." Flamian answered.

"What?! Sariel?! Sariel, apprenticed to Kadrin?!" Dylan exclaimed.

Flamian laughed. "Is it really so shocking? That girl is powerful. She's probably the next Overseer of Wind." They sat in her private dining room. Flamian tore into the food with gusto, while Dylan ate with the refined grace of a queen. Flamian wiped his mouth with a napkin and laughed. She raised an eyebrow at him. "You know, a few years ago, you ate the same way I do."

Dylan smiled. "I still do when it's just me." She joined him in laughter. They spent the rest of the meal reminiscing.

"Master, how much farther is it to Carlin?" Rya asked, dipping her canteen into the stream.

Kadrin took a look at their surroundings. They had left the road the day before, hiking through the forest. "Let's see. Well, we aren't too far from the Netherforest. In fact, we'll be entering it before nightfall. Now, Rya, you will be one of the few to go through this forest. The Netherforest is one of the few ancient places in the Realm that has been left untouched. Dylan made sure of that." He gazed fondly in the direction they were headed. "That forest still holds many secrets. Some of which would probably be better left forgotten."

"How do you know so much?" Rya asked. "Not to be disrespectful or anything, but you seem to know everything."

Kadrin laughed. "No, I don't know everything. I just happen to know quite a bit." The trees began to get thinner, but larger. They towered over them, lords of the forest. Silence was prevalent, the quiet a silence of its own. The only sound was the faint rustling high above, up in the canopy of leaves. Rya stared about in amazement.

"The trees...they're so...so large! How old are they?" She asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Kadrin looked about. "It is said that some of these trees are as old as the world itself. I wouldn't doubt that at all. The animals here won't harm us, as long as we don't provoke them. That was why I had you stock up on food at the last village. If we harm a single creature, the entire forest will become enraged. The trees themselves will attack."

"How...How is that possible? You said magyck was sealed!" Rya exclaimed quietly.

"It was. But just as there were seven who weren't affected by the sealing, so too are there places in the Realm where magyck still has it's hold. If anything, it's a sign that the seal is beginning to break." Kadrin said.

Rya raised an eyebrow. "And you intend to seal it away again?"

Kadrin stopped abruptly. "NO!" His voice echoed through the forest. "Don't you see? There was a time when all the forests were like this. The trees grew tall and thick, the animals large and powerful. All the races of the Realm were attuned to the elements, were attuned to magyck. Yet when the Lords of Magyck sealed them away, the world began to diminish. The only way to stop the world from fading into nonexistence is to awaken the seven elements." They continued on in silence.
